4 tips to keep your resolutions on track

Each year, millions of people make “New Year’s Resolutions”. Many of those decisions deal with productivity at work, organizational skills, or other ways to boost your career and business. Now that it’s the third week of January, have your resolutions gone astray? If so, you’re not alone. About 42% of people who make New Year’s Resolutions will have given up after one month. How do you stay motivated and get back on track? Try these four simple tips:

Keep your resolutions simple, specific, and realistic - It’s very easy to make vague goals. “I’m going to stop procrastinating.” Instead, be specific in your resolutions, “I will keep a task list and check things off when they are done.”

Set benchmarks – Break your resolution down into smaller tasks. Getting organized is easier if you decide that by the end of the month you will be straightening your desk each day, and by the end of the quarter you are keeping a daily planner.

Be positive – Keeping a positive attitude is key in self-control. Watching a funny movie, listening to your favorite music, visiting with a friend, or participating in a hobby are all ways to relax and distract you from any negativity.

And finally, keep in mind why you made the resolution in the first place – Whether for sales, personal growth, or productivity, take a few moments to remember why you chose your resolution. A bit of reflection can be the motivation you need to stick with your plan.

Staying on track can be difficult at times, but it’s not impossible. By breaking your goal down into smaller pieces, staying positive and focusing on why you are working towards it, you can enjoy steady progress.

Face time with NTA

NTA has a passion for safe, code compliant home building. Since their beginning in 1976, their goal has been to help build a better, stronger, code compliant housing industry that will provide safer, stronger, more energy efficient homes to live in. One way to keep working toward this goal is by making ourselves available to connect with home builders where they are, and since that is not always an easy task, NTA participates in many of the same trade shows as home builders, creating face time to answer questions, take part in discussions, and share knowledge.
